By connecting to the real world of students’ lives, authentic learning enables students to become lifelong learners who contribute to society and the wider world as active and discerning citizens. Authentic learning is central to our work as Catholic educators because it promotes the continual growth and wellbeing of the whole person — spiritually, intellectually, emotionally, socially and physically.

As a school that fosters a growth mindset amongst our community, we develop resilient students who are responsible and accountable for their learning. Our students cherish and value challenge in their learning and in their engagement in social, cultural and sporting life. These qualities are fostered in a student-centered learning environment which is rich in feedback and challenge and which makes student growth visible to all.

The Learning Framework at Mount St Joseph Catholic College Milperra is the touchstone for all decisions in relation to learning and focuses on developing spirituality, global citizenship and 21st-century personal attributes in all students. The Mount St Joseph learning approach is founded on explicit instruction of foundational skills, and use of ongoing individual teacher guidance to empower each MSJ girl to recognise the ‘next step’ in their learning and take action to achieve that growth. Our educators are dedicated to ensuring that each student achieves their potential, by igniting their passion for learning with a balance of exciting and structured activities which enable student mastery of the skills and knowledge needed to live a fulfilling life.
