Our school provides opportunities for students, staff and parents to know and celebrate their Catholic faith. This is done through the religious life of our school. Members of our community experience a rich liturgical and prayer life, celebration of the Sacraments, faith formation, social outreach activities, and opportunities to share faith with each other and with youth from other schools in the Archdiocese.

Our college offers a range of liturgical experiences for students, staff and families. These liturgies enhance our involvement as a Josephite community by encouraging girls to connect with their faith.

In particular, we offer:

  • World Youth Day
  • Australian Catholic Youth Festival
  • Contact Us – Youth group of St Therese Padstow that connects students of MSJ with students from De La Salle College, Revesby and La Salle College Bankstown.
  • Fortnightly student prayer group is known as “Mustard Seed”
  • Weekly Adoration service
  • Weekly Home Room and/or House Masses
  • Annual Masses for special events including

The Commencement of the school year:

  • Ash Wednesday
  • St Joseph’s Day
  • St Mary of the Cross MacKillop Day
  • Peru Day (recognising the work of the Sisters of St Joseph in Peru)

Each year group (7-10) participates in a Reflection day that highlights aspects of faith. These days develop a grateful and inclusive environment as students learn to respect each other within the Catholic tradition.

  • Year 7 – Who was Mary MacKillop?
  • Year 8 – What are the superhero qualities of our saints?
  • Year 9 – Overcoming adversity
  • Year 10 – Modern-day discipleship

In Years 11 and 12, our students participate in an overnight Retreat program. These events nurture the relationships between our students and help them develop an awareness of their role in a global community.

  • Year 11 – “We are but travelers here”
  • Year 12 – “A future full of hope”

Mount St Joseph Catholic College Milperra provides a caring and supportive learning environment where each student is shaped by her relationship with Jesus in the Catholic tradition and inspired by St Mary of the Cross MacKillop to make a difference in the world.

Educated in the Josephite tradition to be young women who act justly and in accordance with the values of justice, compassion and respect; Mount St Joseph Catholic College strives to develop contemporary MacKillop women empowered to lead within the wider community.

Mount St Joseph Catholic College values the dignity of each individual. We are committed to providing pastoral care which fosters a sense of belonging and community; such that every student feels supported, encouraged and nurtured.

The wellbeing and pastoral care of students is a priority for all teachers.

“The wellbeing of all students is at the heart of Catholic Education enabling a learning environment which provides for the spiritual, physical, emotional, cognitive and social growth of its students.”

Faith formation opportunities are organised by the school and both Sydney Catholic Schools and the Sisters of St Joseph. They allow staff to join together in the formation of their faith and to enhance their knowledge of the Josephite Charism. Some of these opportunities include:

    • Josephite Colloquium
    • World Youth Day and Australian Catholic Youth Festival Experiences
    • Lenten Groups
    • Prayer Groups and Adoration
    • Annual Staff Spirituality Days

Whilst our primary parish is St Luke’s Revesby, we also work with the priests and communities of St Christopher’s Panania, St Therese Padstow and St Mary Queen of Heaven Georges Hall. Our students are encouraged to participate in the sacramental programs offered by these parishes and to engage regularly in parish life.

Social justice programs offered are a supportive and practical way of learning about compassion towards other people, and also learning just how easy it is to make a difference to the lives of others, by thinking of them and doing small things for them. All social justice initiatives of the school are underpinned by the principles of Catholic Social Teaching. These ideals are promoted through Religious Education lessons and through the work of student organisations. Initiatives include:

    • Senior Outreach Program – Students in Years 11 and 12 complete a minimum of 12 hours of service to others.
    • SIMS (Sister Irene McCormack Society) provides breakfast to students in need and raises funds to support Josephite and Catholic charities.
    • SEAs (Student Evangelisation Ambassadors) educate students and the broader school community about people in need in our world.
    • These groups work together and hold fundraising and education events such as “Women of the World” and “Girls for Ghana” to raise funds and awareness of issues for people in need. These activities highlight that MSJ girls really can do anything.
    • MSJ also participates in fundraising events such as Project Compassion – Caritas’ Lenten Appeal and support the Christmas appeals of: St Vincent De Paul; Catholic Care; Gethsemane House; and Josephite Counter Trafficking.
